Shoh Nishino
Mechanical Engineering
Shoh is a fourth-year undergraduate student at UCLA studying Mechanical Engineering. He will continue at UCLA to pursue a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on robotics and control. Within the PRACTICE Lab, Shoh has contributed to research applying conformal prediction to provide rigorous statistical guarantees for vision-language-model based robotic motion planning. He is currently developing an anomaly detection pipeline for VLM trajectory decisions using cosine similarity and CLIP (Contrastive-Language Image Pre-training). Shoh is also a member of an undergraduate team designing and fabricating an amphibious robot capable of traversing littoral environments and shallow water. His interests span both the theoretical and mechanical design aspects of robotics, and he looks forward to continuing these efforts throughout graduate school.
